How did trade in Africa change the world?
Assignment Part I
You are a living in the city in the Empire of Ghana in the 8th century and have just become a trader. It is your job to keep a log as you travel from Ghana to Mecca.
Using Google earth, create a log of your journey and what you see on the way. (For directions to make the map click here)
Your map must include:
1. your starting point
2. seven stops along the way
3. your final destination
4. write at least two sentences per point stating: what your setting looks like, what type of people live there, how this point is different from your home town, or something that you have learned about the people from that place
a. research the weather looking at google weather and add this to your discription
b. research what it looked like through pictures and satellite images add at least four pictures to your map
go to LAUSD AUD to print and have your parent sign permission to have your work on the internet.
Part II
For the last part of the project write a three paragraph essay on the effects of this trade?
Paragraph one: describe how you life was in your original town
Paragraph two: write about how this trade change you town
Paragraph three: discuss how the items you traded changed the people at the end of your journey
Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to use the mapping skills that you have learned over the course of this unit. It is also deigned to help you see the area that was affected by the gold and salt trade that started in Ghana and Mali. During this project you will also locate, organize, analyze, evaluate, synthesize, and ethically use information from a variety of sources and media (NETS 3.B) and plan and manage activities to develop a solution or complete a project (NETS 4.B).
