Introductions:

Welcome to Medieval World History.   Your journey begins this year with a study of the basic geography of the Eastern Hemisphere and a refresher on GRAPES.  From there we will venture into the fall of the Roman Empire.  After Rome falls we will study the rise of Islam, the culture and kingdoms of West Africa, and end this semester with a look at Mesoamerica.

Materials needed for your journey:

A notebook and two pencils are required every day!!!  Being prepared for class is your responsibility.  You will be graded on being prepared for class on a daily basis.  Colored pencils, a personal sharpener, and glue are optional.

Course Description:

This course focuses the medieval history in the Eastern Hemisphere.  In order to help you understand the importance of history and how it is reflected in today’s world we will study this history through individual, pair, and pod work, vocabulary, quizzes, essays, presentations, and role playing to name a few.  You will also learn note taking and organizational skills to help you prepare for high school and college.  Reading and writing will be part of every lesson, so be prepared to work.  We will be using History Alive: The Medieval World and Beyond by Teacher’s Curriculum Institute as our main text and other primary and secondary sources.

Class Procedures:

1.     All school rules will be followed in the classroom.

2.    An agenda will be posted every day.  Upon entering class sit down and copy the agenda and follow any other instructions that are posted on the board.

3.    I dismiss you from class, not the bell.  In order to be dismissed all desks must be back in place, all trash off the floor, and all students in their desks.

4.    Pencils must be sharpened before class begins.

5.    Keep all trash at your desk during class.  You may throw it away when you are dismissed at the end of the period.

6.    Everyone is expected to participate.

Daily work:

All class work will be stapled or glued in your notebook.  Notebooks will be graded on a bi-weekly basis.  Your notebook will be graded on organization, the table of contents, and completion of assignments.
